"Beach sleep, Sayulita"

                                                oil  36" x 24"  winter 2002

           SOLD

This is my daughter Stella (in the foreground ), her best friend Erica and a wonderful local that we met named Pepe LePu.  He was pretty enamored of Stella at the time and we enjoyed his company for several days.  This photo was taken during our trip in the winter of 2002.  We met Pepe on the Malecon in Vallarta, a huge waterfront walk that runs the course of the city on that side of the river.  Always full of interesting people, tourists, vendors and such, Stella spied Pepe cruising along one night in front of the area where the fire dancers spin their fire.  Later that evening, by chance ( like anything is chance in Mx! ) he happened to approach us to see if we wanted to buy some hand made necklaces.  We hung out with him and his friends the rest of the night and he insisted that we had to go up and check out Sayulita, Nayarit with him the next day.  We met him at the bus stop in front of the Marriot and took the 45 minute bus ride to this tiny little surf village. Dirt roads, no bank machine, just a tiny plaza in the center.  Another fabulous paradise for us to explore.  This shot was taken when we went to visit the Playa los Muertos just outside of town.  The three of them actually fell asleep while I wandered and snapped photos.  I love this painting.  Stella's guitar teacher, David Osuna bought the painting the night of my opening.  (By the way, if you need a great guitar teacher in the north Seattle area, he's definitely your man! Amazingly gifted.)
